Our team is made up of individuals from all over the world dedicated to improving healthcare delivery worldwide and especially in remote and resource-limited settings.

Dr. Ryan McCormick

CEO of RemoteCare Education & Co-Founder of Floating Doctors

Dr. Ryan McCormick grew up in Los Angeles and was a founding member of Floating Doctors, serving as the Vice President. After working for a year rebuilding Southern Wind, he worked in the clinics in Haiti and Honduras before going to medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. While there, he took the lessons he learned in providing patient care and expanded on them completing additional education in Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Emergency Medicine, and Trauma Management.  During school he continued to assist in fundraising and logistical planning. After graduating, he returned home to Los Angeles working in clinical research at UCLA, USC, UCSF and as the Research Director at the California Center for Sleep Disorders. He is currently continuing his work in clinical research as an Associate Director for Drug Safety at Genentech/Roche.

Dr. Benjamin La Brot

President of Remote Care Education & Founder of Floating Doctors

Dr. Benjamin La Brot is a career medical missionary and the founder of the Floating Doctors medical team, specializing in sustainable health access improvements in challenging rural environments. Trained at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and with mission experience in Haiti, Honduras, Tanzania, Mexico, and Panama. Dr. La Brot brings a unique perspective on planning and improving provider mission performance.

DR. George LaBrot

Board Chairman, Floating Doctors

Dr. LaBrot is a patient-centered physician who values the long term relationships  he has established with so many patients over the years.  He has a broad range of medical knowledge, having been Board Certified four times in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Dr. LaBrot enjoys riding his horse through the Santa Monica Mountains, hiking and cross country skiing. His strong interests include history and philosophy. Dr. LaBrot loves music. He enjoys playing guitar and is learning to play the trumpet.
Dr. LaBrot is on the Board of Directors for Floating Doctors, a non-profit organization providing acute and preventive medicine to people living in remote coastal regions.  He has traveled the world treating patients in resource limited areas of the world, including working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. He is a popular lecturer for the University of Minnesota biannual CME program in Delivery of Medical Care in Resource Poor Areas.

Daniel Griffin, MD, PhD

Physician-Scientist Infectious Disease

A physician-scientist board certified in Infectious Disease with expertise in Global Health, Tropical Medicine, Parasitology, HIV, Virology and Travel and Immigrant Medicine. Currently a Clinical Instructor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine-Division of Infectious Diseases, an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular BioPhysics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, President of Parasites Without Borders, Inc. and a provider of clinical inpatient and outpatient Infectious Disease, HIV and Travel Medicine care for ProHealth, NY. Dynamic speaker and educator lecturing throughout the world on Global Health topics for the Peace Corp, University of Minnesota, FIMRC in the Dominican Republic, Floating Doctors in Panama, as well as for other groups in Thailand, Cambodia, Peru, and India. One of the co-hosts of the highly popular podcast This Week in Parasitism with over 1.5 million downloads and one of the authors of Parasitic Diseases, now in its 6th Edition and distributed to approximately 100 countries throughout the world.

Isobel Atkinson

Midwife

Isobel is a British midwife with over 11 years’ experience and has worked in the UK and internationally. In the UK she has worked in both the hospital and community setting. Her international work has been in low resource and remote settings in both Kenya and Panama. The mission work she does is both clinical and educational. Isobel has worked with Floating Doctors for over two years now. During this time she has championed the development of additional maternal health resources in Bocas Del Toro and wrote many of the comprehensive guidelines. Isobel has expertise in home-birth, advanced neonatal resuscitation, birth in the rural setting and Global Maternal Health. She is currently a full-time employee of Floating Doctors and is carrying out a research project into breastfeeding barriers and support in resource poor settings. She is excited to support the University of Minnesota during their CME course in Panama by teaching the lectures on Global Maternal Health and Birth in the Rural Setting. In addition to the lectures, she provides hands on emergency obstetric training during practical training sessions.

Jolie LaBrot

Development Director at Floating Doctors

Jolie has a background in nonprofit management and is the Development Director for Floating Doctors. Growing up in Arizona, she was exposed to service as part of self from an early age and has a passion for helping individuals, communities, and organizations identify their own unique needs and obtaining the tools and resources to meet them. Moving around the country frequently, she enjoys working with local organizations to improve community development wherever she lives.
